There are actually 2 different sectors in the complete CompTIA A+ course, of which you need to pass both to gain A+ competency.
CompTIA A+ training programs teach diagnostic techniques and fault-finding – via hands on and remote access, in addition to building, fixing, repairing and understanding antistatic conditions.
If you’re considering being a man or woman who is a member of a large organisation – fixing and supporting networks, add Network+ to your CompTIA A+, or alternatively look at doing an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft to give you a more advanced experience of the way networks work.
Ensure all your qualifications are what employers want – forget programs which lead to some in-house certificate (which is as useless as if you’d printed it yourself).
From an employer’s perspective, only the big-boys such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (for example) will make the right impression. Nothing else makes the grade.
It’s usual for students to get confused with one area of their training very rarely considered: How the training is broken down and couriered to your address.
Often, you will join a program requiring 1-3 years study and receive one element at a time until graduation. While this may sound logical on one level, consider this:
What if for some reason you don’t get to the end of every section? And what if you find the order of the modules counter-intuitive? Due to no fault of yours, you may go a little slower and not receive all the modules you’ve paid for.
Truth be told, the best solution is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but get everything up-front. You then have everything in the event you don’t complete everything quite as quick as they’d want.
Get rid of a salesman who recommends a training program without an in-depth conversation to assess your abilities plus your level of experience. They should be able to select from a generous choice of training products so they can provide you with what’s right for you.
Quite often, the starting point of study for a person experienced in some areas is vastly dissimilar to the student with no experience.
If you’re a student starting IT studies and exams from scratch, it’s often a good idea to avoid jumping in at the deep-end, beginning with some basic PC skills training first. This is often offered with any educational course.
Full support is of the utmost importance – ensure you track down something that includes 24×7 access, as anything less will not satisfy and will also hamper your progress.
Avoid, like the plague, any organisations who use ‘out-of-hours’ call-centres – where you’ll get called back during typical office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and need help now.
As long as you look hard, you will find the very best companies which offer online support at all times – at any time of day or night.
Don’t under any circumstances take a lower level of service. Support round-the-clock is the only viable option for computer-based study. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; often though, we’re working during the provided support period.
