At first, the LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player doesn’t appear to be all that remarkable. It features a very simple on/off button and the typical play/pause, stop and eject buttons. There is also a USB slot on the right side of the unit and the disc is located in the middle. It’s not cheap looking, and as they say, good things can come in little packages, particularly when it is what’s inside that counts.
This tiny and light player includes a printed manual, which is good, a basic cable, and a useful remote that uses one AAA battery that is provided. The player can be linked in several ways like a LAN port for internet connect, RCA audio out, HDMI port and Component video. As this is a cheap model, you can’t play your video files since it is not DLNA enabled. If you’d like to stream videos, you will need to have an external hard disk drive or thumb drive. While available on more expensive models, this player cannot do it via ethernet connection.
You can attach this player to a regular analogue TV or to a 1080p HDTV. You’ll be able to view videos clearly as the output can match the TV’s native resolution. Adding an external drive or thumb drive is easy as linking it in the USB port. It can support as many as 4 drive partitions and isn’t very picky about the formatting of the drive. It should take you no more than a few minutes to set the disc player up to the TV. The device can quickly load and playback Blu Ray discs. The up conversion from analog to 1080p video is sufficient and does not detract from the movie experience. The disc tray moves really well and does not have any noise.
The unit can update the firmware. The firmware is available from LG via LAN port or you can do it via the website and install it via disk or flash drive. The firmware updates for the player will continue for awhile by LG. It really is worthwhile to mention that the local media files can be viewed through the Blu-ray player. Especially when you add in Blu Ray playback that is very good, fast loading times, pretty good up-conversions for DVDs, and much more, this is worth the cost.
The LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player is very good at what it does and for the cost. Check out their site for the most up-to-date information, and read the reviews before you purchase, but it looks like a winner.
